Psychiatry Residency Program Director- Joint Civilian-Military Training Program

·        Position Summary

·        The Residency Program Director leads a distinct, integrated joint civilian-military Psychiatry training program comprised of 50% civilian and 50% active-duty U.S. Air Force residents. This role will have 70% protected administrative time and 30% clinical/academic practice. Reporting to the Vice-Chair for Education, the Director oversees curriculum, compliance, and clinical rotations across the primary academic center, community hospitals, and outpatient clinics (CBOCs).

Highlights

·        The UT Health San Antonio Psychiatry residency is thriving program.

o   UT Health Long School of Medicine graduates 220 students per year with approximately 10% going into psychiatry.

o   Our program receives approximately 800 applicants per year.

o    We routinely fill our program (12 civilian residents and 10 military) with the top 25% of ranked candidates

o   Our residents are routinely recognized nationally, examples include:

§  The George Ginsberg Fellowship award by the American Association of Directors of Psychiatric Residency Training (AADPRT).

§  The Laughlin Fellowship Program awarded annually by The American College of Psychiatrists (ACP).

§  Our fellows receive national recognition from Specialty Organizations

o   We are fully accredited with No citations.

o   A seamless UME to GME program.

o   We have a highly functioning team of five coordinators.

o   Approximately 5-6 residents will enter fellowships.

o   Accredited Fellowships at UT Health include:

§  Child and adolescent Psychiatry

§  Forensic Psychiatry

§  Geriatric Psychiatry

§  Addiction Medicine

o   Approximately 3-4 weekend/ holiday calls per year.

 

Key Responsibilities

·         Reports directly to the Vice-Chair for Education on program outcomes, ACGME milestones, and strategic initiatives.

·         Joint Program Leadership & Compliance

·         Coordinate resident placement across diverse environments, including academic units, inpatient hospitals, and outpatient clinics.

·         Appoint and mentor site directors at community hospitals and outpatient clinics to maintain curriculum alignment.

·         Curriculum Oversight

·         Resident Wellness & Performance

 
Required Qualifications

·         Degree: MD or DO from an accredited institution.

·         Licensure: Board Certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) and state licensure.

·         Experience: Minimum of 3 years of active faculty experience in an ACGME-accredited Psychiatry residency.

·         Demonstrated experience managing educational rotations across hospital and outpatient clinic settings

·         Competency: Strong familiarity with GME frameworks and medical education systems.
