Program Director - Florida Atlantic University

The Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine at Florida Atlantic University is seeking an outstanding faculty member at the rank of Associate or Full Professor to join the Integrated Medical Science Department. This position involves major effort in teaching, leadership, research, innovation and service in psychiatry. The instructional role is flexible and will include a combination of direct teaching, leadership in graduate medical education, research, and scholarship, development of instructional materials, resident and student advising, curriculum design, assessment of resident performance, and other roles as determined by the developing needs of the College of Medicine and the ACGME Requirements for psychiatry residency.

Our mission is to produce graduates who are prepared and motivated to play a central role in the achievement of three critical state goals: (1) providing the highest quality health care to Florida's citizens; (2) assuring that the state has the requisite number of medical faculty required to support Florida's medical schools and assure continued access to medical education opportunities in Florida; and (3) producing physician-scientists with the knowledge and skills required to transform healthcare and biomedical research in the state. Faculty will collaborate in the development of the four-year curriculum including inpatient and outpatient psychiatry experiences for the psychiatry residency program and for the associated residencies of the LCME accredited medical school.

This position will provide the opportunity for collaboration on research and scholarly projects with FAU and affiliated institutes, including the FAU Brain Institute, the FAU Institute for Healthy Aging and Lifespan Studies, and the Marcus Neuroscience Institute at Boca Raton Regional Hospital. This position will also provide clinical practice opportunities in inpatient and outpatient services within South Florida institutions.


Required Qualifications: 

M.D. or D.O. from an accredited institution required at time of application.
American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABMS) board certification.
Academic credentials that merit appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or higher.
Strong track record of working with residents in the clinical learning environment and robust experience in clinical teaching, scholarship, and research in the field of psychiatry.
Significant administrative responsibilities within graduate medical education program(s) in Psychiatry (e.g. as an Assistant Program Director or Program Director).
Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with a variety of students, residents, fellows, faculty and employees from widely diverse backgrounds.

Desired Qualifications:

Has served as program director or assistant program director of a psychiatry residency, and/or other leadership roles in graduate medical education. 
Demonstrated record of scholarly activity in psychiatry and/or graduate medical education including track record in research supported by grant funding.
