The Department of Psychiatry at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), College of Medicine (COM), is recruiting a Vice Chair (Associate Head) for Clinical Services.  UIC Psychiatry is one of the largest Psychiatry departments in the Midwest, with 90 faculty, an excellent General Psychiatry Residency Training Program, and fellowships in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Addictions, Neuropsychiatry and Women’s Mental Health.  We have a strong commitment to providing health care to the underserved populations in Chicago and are well positioned to participate in many new and exciting developments in the area of mental health and behavior. 

The successful candidate must have an MD or MD/PhD and should be eligible for an unrestricted Illinois State Medical License, and be ABPN certified in Psychiatry. This individual needs to be eligible for an appointment at the Associate or Full Professor level in the Clinician/Educator track in the College of Medicine. The successful candidate should have significant experience managing clinical programs, or a division, in a psychiatry department of an academic medical center. The position reports directly to the Head of the Department of Psychiatry. The Vice Chair oversees all clinical activities in the department (inpatient, outpatient and intensive outpatient) across Adult and Child divisions. The Department of Psychiatry at UIC is a large, clinically busy and research intensive department with 50 clinicians, including MDs, PhDs, APNs and LCSWs who are involved in multiple programs, including Women’s Mental Health, Mood and Anxiety, Psychosis, Neuropsychiatry, Neuropsychology, Pediatric  Mood and others. The department has over 27,000 outpatient visits a year. There is a 35 bed general adult psychiatry inpatient unit in the hospital and a specialized 9 bed child and adolescent unit. The Vice Chair is responsible for ensuring that all clinical activities including initiatives, clinical targets, policies, and compliance, are implemented across the department. He/she provides medical leadership and oversight to ensure that quality of care standards are met through audits, peer reviews and educational initiatives and works closely with the Associate Head for Education, and the Associate Head for Research to successfully integrate our clinical mission with the educational and research missions and programs of our department. 

The Vice Chair for Clinical Services works closely with the Department Head, the Department Administrator as well as other department staff to manage the fiscal parameters of the practice including billing and collections. The Vice Chair also interfaces with all other components of UI Health including the hospital, the physician practice plan, and other clinical departments in the COM ensuring good communication and collaboration to maintain continuity of care for all our patients and our educational objectives.  History of successful team work and a demonstrated ability to work within an institutional frame work are required. 

The successful candidates’ time will be divided between administration, education and clinical responsibilities. Rank/Salary will be commensurate with experience.
