University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry (UR) is seeking an exceptional leader at the level of Professor or Associate Professor to serve as the Associate Chair for Education in the Department of Psychiatry. Home of the biopsychosocial model developed by George Engel, UR Psychiatry continues to build on its long history of distinguished scholarship, education, and clinical care, and as leaders in the design and implementation of training programs keyed to the needs of 21st Century behavioral health care. It will be the job of the Associate Chair to coordinate and oversee all of our professional and interprofessional education efforts, crafting and implementing an overarching strategy, shaping the infrastructure, and fostering the culture necessary for our students and faculty across disciplines to thrive.
As a member of the Department’s leadership team, the Associate Chair for Education has responsibilities that the fall into three general domains:
Promotion of the Education/Training Mission
Represent the education mission in departmental leadership and planning.
With the training program leadership, develop and update on a regular basis the department’s Education Strategic Plan.
Oversight of Training Programs
Oversee and support the design, implementation, and evaluation of the department’s training programs for medical students, psychiatry residents and fellows, psychology interns and fellows, and family therapy trainees.
Collaborate with the Chair, Vice Chair, Associate Chairs of Clinical Services and Research, and the Chiefs of each division to ensure cohesive, mutually reinforcing academic initiatives.
Support the functions of the department’s Education Administrator and Psychiatry Education Office to assure its smooth operation.
Support recruitment and development of faculty from diverse backgrounds with emerging interests in careers as master educators.
Provide mentorship to department’s education leaders in their teaching and administration roles.
Qualifications for the position include:
Doctoral degree in a clinical specialty from an accredited university.
Eligible for academic track faculty appointment as associate professor or professor.
Substantial record of leadership in academic medicine.
An accomplished educator with experience in the administration of accredited training programs.
History of scholarship and national recognition for their accomplishments.
Clear commitment to mentorship and demonstrated track record in mentoring faculty.
