Psychotherapy Competency Assessment Tools

A User-Friendly Summary of Available Assessment Tools and Annotations

Prepared by the Psychotherapy Competency Assessment Subcommittee of AADPRT: Richard F. Summers, MD, Chair, Ronald Albucher, MD, Murray Brown, MD, Marc Jacobs, MD, Linda Mullen, MD, Randall Welton, MD

The committee surveyed programs through the AADPRT list-serve, and collated tools and systems currently in use or planned. We asked the program directors or faculty using the tools to respond to the following questions: 1) How useful is this competency assessment tool in your program? 2) How is the tool applied in your program? 3) How is feedback from the tool used by residents and faculty? When available, the tool is linked to this table either directly or by a web-link. In certain cases, the bibliographic reference is given.

The committee thanks the programs and individuals using these tools for sharing them with the membership. Those with further questions about the approaches described in the table should contact the programs directly for more information.
