Indo-American Psychiatric Association (IAPA) Award

This award is given to a psychiatric resident who is at the PGY III level. The trainee is expected to be an overall outstanding clinician, and have leadership qualities. The selected resident will be invited to IAPA and APA annual meetings with financial support up to $500.00 for the trip. Nominations must accompany a letter from the training director, and a statement that the trainee will be allowed time off to attend the annual meeting.

Victor J. Teichner Award

AADPRT and the American Academy of Psychoanalysis and Dynamic Psychiatry (AAPDP) sponsor this annual award for a residency training program honoring the work and life of Victor Teichner, M.D., an innovative psychoanalyst and educator. The purpose of this award is to support a Visiting Scholar to a residency training program that wants to supplement and enrich its training in psychodynamic psychotherapy. The expenses and stipend for the Visiting Scholar are covered by the award and all residency training programs are eligible. For additional information contact Sherry Katz-Bearnot, MD, President of AAPDP, Jackie Coleman, Executive Director of AAPDP, or the AAPDRT Executive Office.

Carriage in Front of Royal CaféThe 37th AADPRT Annual Meeting is scheduled for March 13 – 16, 2008 at the Wyndham New Orleans at Canal Place.  We have planned a stimulating and fun meeting that takes advantage of the ambience of the French Quarter without overlooking the issues our host city has confronted in their recovery from Katrina.

Post Peds Portal Project

You may have seen notice of the ACGME approval of an Educational Innovation Project of a 36 month combined residency in general psychiatry and child and adolescent psychiatry for physicians who have completed a pediatrics residency. The project allows for a pilot of up to ten programs. The ABPN has recognized this pilot and will allow
graduates to sit for the board exam in general psychiatry and, upon successful completion, to then sit for the certification exam in child and adolescent psychiatry, as it now does for traditional programs.
