Indo-American Psychiatric Association (IAPA) Award
This award is given to a psychiatric resident who is at the PGY III level. The trainee is expected to be an overall outstanding clinician, and have leadership qualities. The selected resident will be invited to IAPA and APA annual meetings with financial support up to $500.00 for the trip. Nominations must accompany a letter from the training director, and a statement that the trainee will be allowed time off to attend the annual meeting.

Victor J. Teichner Award
AADPRT and the American Academy of Psychoanalysis and Dynamic Psychiatry (AAPDP) sponsor this annual award for a residency training program honoring the work and life of Victor Teichner, M.D., an innovative psychoanalyst and educator. The purpose of this award is to support a Visiting Scholar to a residency training program that wants to supplement and enrich its training in psychodynamic psychotherapy. The expenses and stipend for the Visiting Scholar are covered by the award and all residency training programs are eligible. The 37th AADPRT Annual Meeting is scheduled for March 13 – 16, 2008 at the Wyndham New Orleans at Canal Place. We have planned a stimulating and fun meeting that takes advantage of the ambience of the French Quarter without overlooking the issues our host city has confronted in their recovery from Katrina.

Post Peds Portal Project
You may have seen notice of the ACGME approval of an Educational Innovation Project of a 36 month combined residency in general psychiatry and child and adolescent psychiatry for physicians who have completed a pediatrics residency. The project allows for a pilot of up to ten programs. The ABPN has recognized this pilot and will allow
graduates to sit for the board exam in general psychiatry and, upon successful completion, to then sit for the certification exam in child and adolescent psychiatry, as it now does for traditional programs.

ACGME Requests Comment on Revisions to Psychiatry Training Requirements
The ACGME has released for comment proposed revisions to the training requirements in general adult psychiatry and child and adolescent psychiatry. The deadline for submitting comments is May 3rd. The leadership of AADPRT has already submitted a good deal of input into the revision process over the past few years based on a major survey of AADPRT members done a few years ago. AADPRT members wishing to submit additional comments may do so directly to the ACGME. To review the drafts of the proposed training requirement revisions, click on the links below.

AADPRT Meeting Attendees
Space for the Pre-Meeting scheduled for March 8th, 2006 is limited to 150 participants based on space and budgetary limitations. We have reached capacity at this point, and cannot accept new registrations. We would like to take this opportunity to clarify that the content of the pre-meeting is primarily intended for directors and associate directors of training programs and fellowships, as well as faculty who are involved in the actual teaching of residents and fellows.

AADPRT President Appoints Katrina Taskforce
In response to the damage and dislocation caused by Hurricane Katrina, I have asked Paul Mohl, M.D., Vice Chair for Education and Residency Training Director at University of Texas at Southwestern, to chair an AADPRT Task Force on Hurricane Katrina. In collaboration with the ACGME, GME offices, chairs and training directors of affected psychiatry residencies, Paul will coordinate AADPRT’s response including the possibility of assisting residents in temporary relocation if desired by the affected program leadership. We will keep you updated on these efforts through the AADPRT listserve and this Web site.

AADPRT Receives Grant to Fund Pre-Meeting
Michele Pato and Lisa Mellman have secured an NIMH R-13 conference grant to fund the AADPRT pre-meetings for the coming 5 years. The focus will be on development of scholarship and research skills in psychiatry residents. Previous AADPRT Pre-Meetings have been very well received and the proposed new series promises to continue that tradition. For details, click here.
